Charlie: A Lesson About Second Chances

by Tracie C October 30, 2019
written by Tracie C

Parents: Here’s a video you can use in talking to your kids about our God of 2nd chances! Aren’t you glad we always get another chance when it comes to God?

I just LOVE a good dog story, don’t you?

This one is about Charlie, a dog who didn’t have a home or family of his own. He was found on the side of the road with dirty, matted hair, filled with sticky burrs. He was a mess!

The folks at the dog shelter wanted him to be adopted speedy quick, but first, he needed to get all cleaned up.

Check out the video.

WOW! What a difference!

At the end of the video, it says that Charlie was adopted. Now he has a family to love him and keep him safe, fed, and clean. Pretty cool, right?!

It also says at the end that “all dogs deserve a second chance.”

That reminds me of how God always gives us a second chance. We all mess up, don’t we? We do things we shouldn’t do and make all kinds of mistakes. Our sins can make us feel dirty inside. But God is ALWAYS willing to forgive us and give us another chance to do better. His forgiveness washes that yucky sin away and we are brand new. All we have to do is ask. God will always forgive you. Always.

Prayer:

Thank You, God, for the ways you love us. Thank you that we can come to you with our messy mess-ups and you always welcome us. You are always willing to forgive us.

Help me to remember that no matter how many times I mess up, you will still love me. You will always love me.

I love you, too.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Love: Never Lost. Always Found.

by Tracie C September 29, 2019
written by Tracie C

Parents: Here’s a fun way to talk about God’s love with your kiddo. Takes about 3 minutes, but the reminder might last a lifetime.

Have you ever thought you lost something?

What was it? How did you feel when you couldn’t find it?

You probably haven’t lost your fork like this little boy thinks he has, but check out this video to see his reaction to finding it.

He’s pretty happy to find his fork, right?

But what’s funny is he was holding it the whole time! It wasn’t really lost.

God’s love is like that. You might feel like his love is far away or that he has left you, but that’s not true! He is closer to you than your own skin. That’s VERY close!

Remember, no matter what, God loves you. You can never lose that!

Pray: Thank you, God, for your love. Thank you that I don’t have to worry that you’ll stop loving me or that I’ll somehow lose your love. Help me to love others the way you love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Faith-Filled Kids: Who-Why-What

by Tracie C April 21, 2019
written by Tracie C

Well, first of all…Hello! I’m so glad you’re here!

This is the beginning of a project has been on my mind for a long time. My hope is that Faith-Filled Kids will be a place you return to time and again to gain encouragement and resources for planting seeds of faith into the lives of your children. Because, as a parent, I know that the time you have with your kids is short. It flies by in a blink. So, you want to make the most of it when it comes to fostering a love for Jesus in them.

Who Am I?

I’ve been involved in some form of Children’s Ministry for over 25 years. I’ve been a babysitter. A preschool teacher. A VBS leader. A Sunday school teacher. A Children’s Ministry Director. I received my M.A. in Children’s & Family Ministry from Bethel Seminary in 2015 and am the mom of two nearly-adult guys. I think kids are ridiculously awesome. Some of the best people on the planet. And I think Jesus feels the same way, don’t you?

Why This and Why Now?

The idea for Faith-Filled Kids came to me a few years ago while I was working as a Children’s Ministry director. In conversations with parents, I noticed that some had a hard time figuring out how to share their faith with their kids. Some also preferred to think of the church as the leader of their child’s spiritual formation, instead of themselves.

Don’t get me wrong…church IS important. I am a fan! But, I believe it is ideally a supplement to what is already going on at home. God charges parents with the task of raising up their children to faith in Jesus.

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

– Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Sounds a little daunting, right? The good news is that you have the Holy Spirit to help you! You are not alone in this parenting gig.

What Will You Find Here?

When you visit Faith-Filled Kids you’ll find book and movie reviews, fun object lessons, and a whole lot more. Think of this site as a place where you’ll hear “You can do it!” over and over again!

I’m excited that you’re here! My prayer for you is that you will always know that God is with you, that God is for you, and that he will equip you to the task at hand.

Remember, small seeds of faith planted today can grow into big faith for tomorrow!

Much Love,

Tracie
