My review: Jennifer Grant wrote Maybe God is Like That Too back in 2017 and I LOVED it! I was so excited to see her next book, Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too, come out and it has not disappointed. It’s the story of a little girl who is beginning to understand that her neighbor isn’t just the person who lives next door to her, but also people who live far away. Everyone is her neighbor and everyone deserves understanding, kindness, and love.  From helping the passerby to sharing toys, she starts to observe the ways people love and care for one another and thinks “Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too.”

This book is a GREAT resource for helping your kids understand the beauty of caring for their neighbors.

Conversation & Activity Ideas

  • Jesus said in Mark 12 that we are to “love our neighbor the same way we love ourselves.” What are some ways we can love our neighbors? Can you think of any? Maybe think of it like this: What are some things your neighbors could do for you that would make you feel special and loved? Make a list and decide to do one of those kind things for a neighbor today.
  • Do you know your neighbors? Here’s a site that lists lots of great ideas for getting to know the people who live near you. Try one out this week!
  • What if you planned to do something kind for your neighbors once every 3 months? Or even every month?! That’s a lot of kindness!
  • Friends of mine have set up a picnic table in their front yard that has become a hub for neighborhood get-togethers. They celebrate neighborhood birthdays, watch football games projected onto a big, white sheet, and so much more. Their neighborhood is closer than ever because of that simple picnic table. What if you did that?! What a cool way to get to know your neighbors! Their inspiration came from the book The Turquoise Table by Kristin Schell.
