My review: This book had me laughing until I cried in the aisle at the store. It’s fun and silly and we ALL know a kid who would rather stay stuck than ask for help. Mercy! I LOVE this book!

Still Stuck, by Shinuske Yoshitake, is a story about a little guy who needs to get undressed for his bath. He’s sure he can get his clothes off by himself but then he gets stuck in his shirt. He imagines what life would be like if he stayed stuck forever. Gracious, this made me laugh. No worries…he doesn’t stay stuck forever. Mom to the rescue!

The pictures are simple and sweet. I’d recommend this one for the whole family!

Conversation Starters:

  • The boy CLEARLY needs help getting his shirt off. His mom wanted to help him, but he refused to let her. He was being pretty stubborn, right? Have you ever been stubborn? Have you ever refused help when you really needed it? Why? Remember, when we’re in need, God is our help! Have you ever asked God for help? Why?
  • I wonder if the mom was frustrated with her little boy? What do you think? Do you think God is ever frustrated with us? The Bible says that God doesn’t get angry quickly, but is full of grace for us. Isn’t that great! He loves us so much! Who can you show grace and mercy to today?
  • The boy has a great big imagination! I bet you do, too! If your shirt was stuck on top of your head, what things would be hard for you to do? What would you do about it?
  • The boy never does ask for help, does he? He eventually gets so stuck that he can’t do anything at all. He wasn’t very humble. To be humble means to realize and admit you’re not any better than anyone else and that you need help sometimes, too. The Bible says that God even gives grace to the humble. So, when we’re humble, God is there to help us.
