My review: When I Pray for You by Matthew Paul Turner is a beautiful book about a mother’s prayer for her daughter. She shares the big hopes and dreams she has for her child while keeping the focus on the giver of all good things: God. It’s sweet, sentimental, playful, and heartwarming. I can easily imagine your child will enjoy hearing this one on repeat!
Conversation Starters:
- The mom in this story loves to pray for her daughter. Who do you pray for? What do you pray about? Did you know that the Bible says that Jesus prays for us? He does!
- The mom believes that God hears her when she prays. Do you believe God hears you, too? The Bible says that when we call out to God, he hears us! Isn’t that wonderful?!
- In the story, the mom says, “‘Cause when I pray for you, I imagine God’s view. And pray all that God sees comes alive inside you.” What do you think God sees when he looks at you? God sees someone he loves very much! The Bible says that he has known you and loved you since before you were even born.
- By the end of the book, the girl has grown and gone off to explore. What kinds of things do you think you’ll explore when you grow up? Are you excited about the things you might do?
Activity: Choose someone to pray for this week. Pray for them every night at bedtime for 7 days. When the week is up, send them a note and a drawing to let them know that you prayed for them. They will love knowing that you asked God to help them!
